TRIBUTES TO DR. D. E. HANSEN
WORK FOR DISABLED SERVICEMEN
Tributes to the work of Dr. D. E. Hansen for the Disabled Servicemen’s Re-establishment League during a period of more than 20 years were paid at a function yesterday morning. Dr. Hansen served on the league continuously since he was first appointed as the representative of the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors in 1931 until he retired from the position of principal of the college at the end of 1949.
Dr. and Mrs Hansen were entertained at morning tea by the executive of the league. The Prime Minister (Mr Holland), who accepted an invitation to be present, said that his presence could be taken not only as an indication of his own pleasure and interest but also as a mark of the Government’s goodwill and appreciation of the work of the league. A large, hand-woven travelling rug, made by trainees at the centre, was presented to Dr. Hansen by the Dominion president of the league and chairman of the Christchurch branch (Colonel J. Murphy), who thanked him for his helpful and constructive work. Many trainees would regret to hear of the retirement of Dr, Hansen, but his association with the sub-com-mittee dealing with vocational training would not be forgotten. Colonel Murphy said.
It was his hope that training facilities on similar lines would be instituted for disabled civilians, said Dr. Hansen thanking the league for its gesture. Mrs Hansen was presented with flowers.
