N.Z. COUNCIL’S MEETING
POSSIBLE TOUR BY AUSTRALIANS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 7. There Is a possibility that an Australian amateur golf team will tour New Zealand next year. This was stated by the chairman of the council of the New Zealand Golf Association (Mr D. R. Richmond) at a meeting of the council in Wellington to-day. Mr Richmond said the Australian Golf Council had been invited to send an amateur team to tour the Dominion this year, but the Australian union had been unable to accept the. invitation. The invitation had been renewed for next year, and word had been received that this proposal would be considered at the annual meeting of the Australian union in Melbourne next month. The Australian Golf Union had neen invited to send a team or four or five players for a four or five weeks’ tour, said Mr Richmond. The New Zealand Golf Association Would pay all the expenses Of the Australian players while In the Dominion, but the transport costs would be borne by the Australian union. An offer by the New South Wales Golf Association to send an amateur team to New Zealand was declined, because of the invitation extended to the Australian union. At the Instance of Mr D. O. Whyte (Wellington), it was decided to explore the possibility of an amateur golf team from California visiting the Dominion. The importance of continuing the interprovincial teams-of-four match, which was inaugurated in Christchurch this year, Was emphasised, Mr A. R. Blank (Canterbury) said he favoured the match being confined to four players. Mr D. R. Garrard 'Auckland) said he considered that better results would be obtained by ‘earns of eight. . _ „ It was decided that Messrs G. P. Roberts and R. T. Peacock, two of the Wellington delegates, should form a subcommittee to make a report to the next meeting. Applications were received from the Wanganui and Miramar golf clubs for staging the New Zealand championship golf tournament next year. It wag decided to allot the 1952 championship tournament to Wanganui, which last staged the national championship tournament in 1934, while Miramar had been given the honour in 1939. The South Island amateur championship tournament in September, 1952, is to be played at Nelson. It was agreed that the council should go into the question of preparing a list Of the courses upon which New Zeaiand championship tournaments would be held. It was stated that the list should be Confined to about six courses, which must be up to championship standard.

Hole in One.—While playing in a recent metch, Mrs J. N. Reed holed in one at the short eighth hole, soilth-v.-est.
