DEATHS CAUSED BY HURRICANE

(Rec. 10 p.m.) MEXICO CITY. Sept. 1. The toll from the most disastrous hurricane and flood in Mexico’s history rose last night to at least 257 dead, as rescue parties pushed into isolated areas. Officials said more than 200 died when the storm obliterated three towns. This report brought the toll of the hurricane to more than 413 dead—at least 257 in Mexico, 154 in Jamaica, and two off the coast of Texas.
