MR HOLLAND AT WHANGAREI
FREQUENT CHEERS AND APPLAUSE
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 26. A predominantly friendly audience of about 1000 heard the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) in the Whangarei Town Hall last evening. He showed no sign of strain after battling against the concerted hostility of his meeting in Auckland the previous night. The Prime Minister was in top form, and rounded mercilessly on a handful of isolated interjectors. Mr Holland extended good wishes to the voters of the Northern Maori seat He said the National Party suffered a great deal because there was no Maori in the team. It had been stated that the Maori people liked to back a winner. At the last election they had backed a loser. It would be well tor them to have a little bit on the winning horse this time. The National Party would spare no effort to serve the interests of the two races inside the one family circle. He expressed his gratitude for the assistance of the Maori people during the waterfront crisis.
The Prime Minister was frequently applauded and cheered in reviewing the Government’s handling of the waterfront dispute.
