Abadan Will Not Be Abandoned

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, August 24. The Abadan correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says that British former servicemen, including former Air Force men, comprise most of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company employees who will remain at Abadan. After the breakdown of the oil talks with Persia all British are being evacuated from Persia’s oilfields, but there is no intention of abandoning Abadan, where the refinery is situated. The employees at Abadan expect to stay on indefinitely. Both the British and the Persians in Abadan believe that if the Persians try to get their hands on the refinery then British troops will intervene, with the backing of big numbers of British warships and aircraft.
