OFFICE BUILDING SOLD
£lB,OOO PAID FOR CIVIC CHAMBERS
Considerable interest was taken in the sale bv public auction yesterday morning of the Civic Chambers, an office building in Manchester street, for £lB.OOO. About 40 persons attended the sale, but only a few bid. The purchaser was the United Insurance Company. Bidding was started at £l5 000, and bids of £lOOO each raised the price to the figure at which the building was sold. The two-storeyed building, which was built of brick, fronted with grey stone, is 40 years old. It has a frontage of 48ft on the west side of Manchester street between Worcester street and Hereford street, near the Trinity Congregational Church. The offices, rooms, and one shop which occupy the two main floors cover 6000 sq. ft. and there is a large basement, also divided into office premises. The building was sold on behalf ot the trustees in the estate of the late Mr D. J. Morrow.
