BAMANGWATO TRIBE
former regent BANISHED
CAPE TOWN. August 3. Tshekedi Khama was to-day served with an indefinite banishment order preventing him from entering the Bamangwato tribal reserve where he was cnee Regent. The order was served by Mr E. B. Beetham, Resident Commissioner in Bechuanaland, at a meeting at Lobatsi which lasted for 10 minutes. Tshekedi Khama, who was driven to Lobatsi from Mafeking, left immediately afterwards for Molopolole. further north in the Bakwena reserve. Mr Beetham also handed Tshekedi Khama a letter signed by him stating that if the three British observers decided to hold a joint kgotla (tribal meeting) Tshekedi Khama would be free to go into the Bamangwato reserve from the time of the decision until the kgotla was held. The three observers are investigating Tshekedi Khama’s status as a result of the dispute over the marriage of his exiled nephew, Seretse Khama, to * London typist, Miss Ruth Williams.
