Review Of Five Hotels In Lyttelton CHRISTCHURCH SITTINGS ADJOURNED The review ot five Lyttelton hotels and consideration of an apjilicatibn for A ttob charter by the Lyttelton Club yesterday completed the first sitiihgs of the Licensing Control Commission in Christchurch. Members of the commission (Messrs A. M. Gotildidg, S.M., L. C. Nisbet and E. Barrington) left for Wellington last evening and will return to Christchurch fbr the next sitting on August 13; The evidehce of the Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr F. G. Briggs), who told the cbmmissioh on Tuesday that hotel licensees in Lyttelton had refused requests to supply accommodation was supported yesterday by Mr A- H. Harvey* licensee of the Lyttelton Hotel. Mt Harvey testified that three hotels—which he named—had declined to take in guests when he asked them. The licensees of two Of these hotels had previously denied charges of refusing accdihmodatioii and the third licensee said yesterday that he had always taken in guests referred to him by the licensee of the Lyttelton Hotel “if he could accommodate them.” When the commission returhs to Christchurch it will review hotels In the Riccarton and Selwyn licensing districts, and will Rear applications for club charters. Mr R. A. Young is counsel assisting the commission, and Mr W. E. Leicester is appearing for the licensed trade. SubInspector J. J. Reams gave evidence for the police.
