CHARGES AGAINST U.S. OFFICIALS

(Rec. 8.15 pan.) WASHINGTON, July 30. The State Department announced today that Mr John Paton Davies had been cleared of loyalty and security charges and had returned to active duty as a member of the high-level policy planning staff of the Secretary of State (Mr Dean Acheson). > Messrs Davies and Oliver Edmund Clubb, director of the Chinese Affairs Office were suspended last month. The nature of the charges against them was not disclosed. The hearing of the charges against Mr Clubb will begin to-morrow. -
