RAID BEHIND U.N. LINES
DARING FEAT BY COMMUNISTS TOKYO, June 6. A small, daring band of Communist guerrillas raided the town of Chongju, 25 miles north of Teajon In Korea on May 26, and killed at least seven people before withdrawing. Chongju lies more than 100 miles behind the Allied front lines. This is the first guerrilla action of any dimensions reported in the rear area in several months. The incident was revealed to-day when members of the Korean National Assembly in Fusan protested against the failure of the South Korean Constabulary to prevent the raid. Assembly members charged that, although there were 400 police stationed in Chongju and the guerrillas were variously estimated to number only between 50 and 150, the Communists roamed the town freely and even marched down the main thoroughfare singing the North Korean Anthem. The guerrillas also raided the local prison and set free a number of inmates.
