Applications will b 6 accepted, however, from those who have a reasonable hope of complying with these requirements. The grants will cover return fares. Applications will be considered from those in the following four groups:— (a) graduate students, 12 grants; (b) primary or post-primary school teachers, four grants; (c) research scholars, four grants; (d) visiting professors, three grants. Applicants in all categories must undertake to spend an academic year in the United States. Selection will be based on academic records, experience where applicable, personality and the extent to which the proposed field of activity fits in with the general purposes of the programme, which is based on the furthering of international understanding and goodwill. Student candidates recommended for Fulbright travel grants who have no assured dollar support will be invited by the foundation to lodge applications with the Institute of International Education, New York, a voluntary organisation which assists students to obtain scholarships at American universities. Applications, which are obtainable from the United States Edncational Foundation in New Zealand, close on July 31, 1951.
