HEALTH OF THE KING

Press Comment In London

<Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, May 6. Ine "Sunday Pictorial" to-day says it believes His Majesty is at present undergoing considerable pain from his affected leg. It adds: “The ‘Sunday Pictorial’ believes it was at considerable cost to himself that the King undertook the arduous duties in connexion with the opening of the Festival. We have studied the many photographs taken on these occasions and our reporters have watched him as he drove in state to St. Paul’s and as he walked through the south bank exhibition. What was revealed led us to make intensive inquiries about his health, and we must conclude that at present he is undergoing considerable pain from his affected leg. “This view was shared by, among others, the Sydney "Sunday Telegraph,” which-has reported that the King's fatigue last week was so noticeable that observers doubt whether he will be able to make even a curtailed tour Australia and New Zealand next year." The Press Association’s Court correspondent says mere is no foundation for the Australian newspaper report that the obvious fatigue of His Majesty at the opening ceremonies of the Festival of Britain might force his doctors to reconsider whether he is fit enough for the Australian and New Zealand tour.
