TEST OF ATOMIC BOMB

UNDERGROUND BLAST PLANNED (Rec. 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Apl. 5. Senator Warren Magnuson (Democrat, Washington) said to-day that the United States would soon test either a hydrogen bomb or an atomic bomb underground in one of the Aleutian Islands. “I understand from sources I cannot disclose that the test is primarily to determine what happens when a bomb is exploded underground,” Senator Magnuson said. "I am told the bomb may be buried as deep as 300 feet.

“What they want to find out is what would happen if a saboteur should cause a bomb to explode in a subway or in a sub-basement of some building in one of the large American cities.”
