BRITISH SHIP SET AFIRE

SHELLING BY CHINESE COMMUNISTS (Rec. 12.15 a.m.) _ HONG KONG, April 16 The British ship, Victoria Peak (4364 tons), carrying a cargo of rubber and cotton, suffered extensive damage when shellfire from Communist batteries set the vessel on fire as she was approaching Hong Kong last night. The Victoria Peak reached Hong Kong, where a fleet of fire floats brought the blaze under control. The ship was shelled from Llngting Island, south of Hong Kong, when it was approaching Hong Kong from Singapore.
