WATERSIDE UNION AT GISBORNE
MAORIS APPLY FOR REGISTRATION
(New Zealand Preet Association) GISBORNE, April 17. A group of casual workers in Gisborne, mainly Maoris, who have had experience on the waterfront as “seagulls,” has applied to the Minister of Labour (Mr W. Sullivan) for registration as a watersiders’ union.
The procedure for the formation of a union was discussed on Saturday when the group, the initial strength of which is 19, appointed a povisional executive which expects no difficulty in recruiting enough men to (handle work at the port. The effective strength of the deregistefed union was W.
