GERALDINE SCHOOL
Sir, —It is now admitted that the intention to build a new infant block at the Geraldine primary school has been abandoned, and the secretary of the Canterbury Education Board states that the school committee “is the elected body to control the school.” He apparently forgets that the board was elected by the people to carry out a certain policy, which was the expressed wish of the people. If the board abandons that policy, the people have a right to protest in the strangest possible way, and to ask the Minister of Education to intervene. Will Mr Butcher deny that a scheme is under way that will mean the eventual transfer of most of the primary school to the secondary site?—Yours, etc., F. W. HOPGOOD. Geraldine .April 10, 1951.
Sir, —Geraldine parents will be shocked to learn that the school committee has abandoned the open air infant block in favour of building in Raukapuka. It told householders it had no intention of moving the primary school. A meeting should be held to urge on the Minister of Education the need for an open air infant block at the primary as a first need.—Yours, etc., SHOCKED. April 11, 1951.
