VICTORIA LEAGUE
At a meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Victoria League, held yesterday, arrangements were made for members to staff a street corner in Christchurch on Poppy Day, and to stock and staff a monster bring-and-buy sale, to be held at the league’s annual meeting early in May. The president (Mrs J. Mowbray Tripp) who presided, announced that the league would join other Empire societies in celebrating Empire Day next month. It was decided to send a message of thanks and congratulation to the league’s development committee in London, which had sent, free of charge, 600 copies of the first issue of the official journal of the Victoria League. A copy of the magazine will be sent to each member of the local branch. IJ y? reported that several letters had been received from New Zealanders m England, expressing appreciation of the hospitality extended to them by the league in London, and letters re®e»ved J ro! ? headquarters asked the Christchurch branch to welcome English members who have come to Canterbury either as visitors or to take up positions. Miss M. Ray; for the correspondence section, reported that she had received letters from the honorary secretary of a he .u V i C u to ? a - Leasee in Bulawayo, South Rhodesia, saying that steps were be i! ng , ke ?. , to Bend circulars to schools in Bulawayo, and also from the official correspondent of the league m Malacca, forwarding addresses of tha J T shed to establish ’hik? .with New Zealand. Miss Ray-was appointed convener of a bridge sub-committee that will arrange parties to raise money for the ieague’g activities,
