MEN’S BASKETBALL

FIRST MATCHES OF SEASON

Rex, Y-Boys, and Polo won their matches when the first games of the 1951 men's indoor basketball season were played last evening. Rex beat Marist 29*16 in the fastest game of the evening. Both teams found difficulty. in completing their plays, but the general court play was good. For Rex. H. Fox scored 11 points. He fed his side forwards well. I. Sutherland scored 10 points, gained by good rebound play when on attack. For Marist, W. Dyson, the former Wellington representative, was outstanding. His loss was noticed when he was Ordered off in the last quarter with five fouls. Y-Boys. winners of the competition last year, were too strong for B.G’H.. winning 42-28.. M. McDougall and L. Hac«, New Zea'and representatives. last year, led Y-Boys attack, scoring 20 and 10 points respectively. Y-Boys lost possession with bad passing, but showed flashes of good play. They should develop well after a few weeks.

L Harliwich (Polo) and D. Adcock (University) were the only players of note when these teams met in a lowscoring game. Both teams sacrificed science for speed. Polo won 19-10. \ I .■ ,' /V. .. ■
