INCREASES LIKELY SOON
SUPERANNUITANTS AND FAMILY MAN An announcement will be made soon detailing improved social security benefits for superannuitants and the family man, according to Mr W. B. Tennent, M.P. for Palmerston North, In an address last evening Mr Tennent said he was unable td make a full statement on the increases, but gave an assurance that they would be made within the next few weeks. Mr Tennent made this statement during a survey of the Government’s accomplishments during its term of office. “The benefit to the public from the policy of the Government is show.', in the huge increases in the consumption of foodstuffs and other-necessaries last yeai,” he said. “By its measures against inflation, by wage increases, and additional pay-outs in social security, including increased benefits and the Christmas bonus, the Government has maintained the purchasing power at such a level that the people in 1950 bought more of practically everything,” said Mr Tennent.
