WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Christchurch.—Letters from the link in England were read by Mrs Keen at the January meeting of the Christchurch Women’s Institute. Mrs Anderson presided. During the afternoon a talk on institute matters was given by Mrs Prebble. Keen interest was taken in the g l oup picnic to be held at Rapaki torwards the end of this month. Competitions for the month resulted:—sweet pea: Mrs Kenny 1, Mrs Moore 2, Miss Bates 3. Black currant jam: Mrs Moore 1, Mis Barrow 2, Mnp Kenny 3. Christmas cake: Mrs Hislop 1, Mrs R. Smith 2, Mrs Kenny 3.
Little River.—The president (Mrs H. Mould) presided at the January meeting of the Little River Women's Institute. It was decided that the balance in hand from the catering for the half-yeariy meeting should be equally divided between the Canterbury federation and the building fund. Mrs Mould and the secretary (Mrs Joblin) were nominated for the Canterbury Federation Council. Members decided to hold n card party to raise funds to continue the sponsorship of a child. Competitions judged by Mrs S. Sefton and Mrs I. Barclay resulted:— single bloom: Mrs A. Radford 1, Mrs Grant 2, Mrs H. Dutton 3.- Spike: Mrs Grant 1, Mrs A. Jones 2, Mrs A. Patton 3. Cluster bloom: Mrs L. Lewthwalte 1. Mrs A. Radford 2.' Piece of Christmas cake: Mrs A. Radford 1, Mrs L. Breitmeyer 2, Mrs J. Topp 3. Butter-dish: Mrs McAuliffe 1, Mrs White 2, Mrs Joblin 3. Unusual container of flowers: Mrs McAuliffe 1, Mrs Joblin 2, Mrs Mitchell 3. The hostesses were Mesdames McAuliffe, I. jtarclay, W. Chappell, and A. Jones.
