NEW CIVIL AIR ROUTE
CANADA-AUSTRALIA SERVICE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. November 29. The first airways company to fly planes from North America to Au»tralia by way of New ZealandCanadian Pacific Airlines—will begin its new service in January. Fortnightly flights will be made from Vancouver to Sydney, by way of Honolulu. JJandi. and Auckland. However, the permit granted by the Australian and New Zealand Governments for flights over the Tasman route, hitherto a Tasman Empire Airways monopoly, guards the flyingboats from competition. Canadian Pacific Airlines did not re3uest permission to pick up or put own passengers in New Zealand, to and from Australia, but representations were made by the Canadian Government for stop-over privileges jt Auckland. These privileges, common on overseas air routes, would enable through passengers to leave a Canadian aircraft at Auckland for a New Zealand tour, and to join a later flight. Permission for this was not granted, but because of the Importance of s stop-over to tourists, the negotiations are continuing. Passengers may travel between Vancouver and Auckland and Auckland and Vancouver.
