PRICE OF RUBBER FOOTWEAR
INCREASE IN COST OF RAW MATERIAL
Because of a big increase in the price of raw rubber, New Zealand rubber manufacturers have increased the price of rubber footwear by 12 J per cent. A representative of the manufacturers said yesterday that until about six months ago it was possible to obtain raw rubber at Is 6d per lb. Prices had since risen to 3s 6d, on which the new footwear price was based, and it was now reported that the price for raw rubber had moved up to 5s 2d per lb. The manufacturer said that before the 12| per cent, rise was approved there had been no increase in rubber footwear prices over the period of nine or 10 years that they had been manufactured in New Zealand. Manufacturers had also absorbed freight and packing charges, though they were entitled to pass these on, said the spokesman.
The rise in prices will not be felt immediately by the public as stocks on hand will be disposed of at the old pricey
