EVENING SOCIAL
SOUTHLANDERS ENTERTAINED At the Scottish Society’s rooms, Cashel street, last evening members of the Christchurch branch of the Southland High School Old Girls’ Association entertained members of the branch and other former residents of Southland not necessarily old pupils of the school at a very enjoyable social gathering. Mrs J. Allott, the president, welcomed about 100 guests and expressed pleasure at the continued growth of the branch, and the keen interest taken in its activities by young members. The two vice-presidents. Mrs D. Mcßae and Mrs M. Burt, and the honorary secretary. Miss J. Garmson. helped Mrs Allott in her duties as hostess.
An excellent concert programme was presented as follows:—songs sung by the Novelettes, led by Mrs Anita Ledsham. piano duets played by Misses Muriel Stanley and Doreen Jones, vocal solos by Mrs Nelson Kerr, Mrs Ledsham. and Mrs Linda Haase, song and dance bv Misses Cherry Ledsham and Peggy Erridge. lightning sketches by Mr I. Costello, monologues by Mrs J. P. O’Sullivan, violin and piano duets by Misses Patricia and Oona Stevenson. and four short Dickens sketches played by members of the Dickens Fellowship—Miss G. Musgrove. Mrs W. Dailey. Mrs J. Harland. Miss Selby, Miss Margaret Packard. Miss A Broadhead, and Mr S. D. Wilson.
