TROTTING CUP

VICE REGAL PARTY AT ADDINGTON

Thousands of race enthusiasts, including many visitors from different parts of the Dominion, thronged the Addington trotting course yesterday when the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Cup meeting opened in fine weather. The racing was most exciting and provided many thrills for the spectators, among whom were their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Bernard Freyberg, and Lady Freyberg, and members of their staff. On their arrival at the course, shortly after midday, their Excellencies were received by the president of the club <Mr C. S. Thomas) and Mrs Thomas, the president of the New Zealand Racing Conference (Mr Allan Matson) and Mrs Matson, and the vice-presi-dent of the club (Mr C. E. Hoy) and Mrs Hoy. Miss Rosemary Eley, lady-in-waiting to Lady Freyberg, Mr D. E. Fouhy, Squadron Leader P. Clapham, Flight Lieutenant D. Roberts, and Lieutenant A. G. Tait attended their Excellencies.

Lady Freyberg wore a grey twopiece suit. The frock was trimmed with fine tucking and the loose coat was finger-tip length. She wore a double fox fur and a black hat trimmed with a large grey flower placed at the side of the front. Miss Eley wore a clover frock patterned in white, grey coat and small black hat trimmed with white flowers. Mrs Thomas wore a black ensemble, with long coat and frilled white vestee. Her wide black straw hat was finished with a bunch of white flowers at one side. Mrs Matson’s frock of French blue and white floral silk crepe was worn with a long navy coat, fox fur and wide navy straw hat banded with white ribbon. Mrs Hoy wore a pervenche blue suit and small navy hat.
