RACING BEAUMARIS TO GO NORTH
WEIGHT-FOR AGE RACE AT TE RAPA
Beaumaris, Pastel, and Winslow Boy will race on the second dhy of the Waikato Racing Club’s spring meeting on November 18 and they will be taken north by the Riccarton trainer, J. S. Shaw, next Monday. Beaumaris’s mission will be the newly-established • Foxbridge Plate. Run under weight-for-age conditions over one mile and a- quarter, the Foxbridge Plate carries a stake of £2OOO and in addition there is a trophy worth £lOO given by Foxbridge’s owner, Mr L. S. Otway. If his owner-trainer is satisfied with him, Beaumaris will run in the Churchill Stakes on the third day of the New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton on Saturday. This race was won last year by Beaumaris, but its distance was then one mile and a quarter. This year it has been reduced to one mile. Pastel and Winslow Boy, which are both raced by Mr M. J. Moodabe, Auckland, have already raced at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Pastel finished well back in the Stewards’ Handicap on the first day, but that was her first race this season and she should soon be ready to show her real ability. She galloped with her usual brilliance on the No. 7 grass at Ricarton yesterday, running five furlongs in Imin 2 4-ssec, the last three in 38 4-ssec. She was being eased over the final stages.
Winslow Boy, a three-year-old gelding by Foxbridge from Underway, ran fourth in the Stonyhurst Handicap at Riccarton on Monday. Ballochmyle galloped in his usual effortless style on the plough at Riccarton yesterday, covering six furlongs in Imin 15 l-ssec, the last four in 50 3-ssec, but he is giving his Riccarton trainer, J. C. Tomkinson, some anxiety. Yesterday there was a slight filling and some heat in a foreleg. He has done little fast work since he brilliantly won the Wainui Handicap under 9-13 on the first day at Trentham, but if all is well with him he will contest the Churchill Stakes on the final day of the New Zealand Cup meeting at Riccarton next Saturday.
What little fast work was done yesterday was divided between the No. 7 grass and the plough. Copperplate’s task was an easy four furlongs on the grass. He ran the last three in 36 l-ssec, moving attractively. Johnny Peep, which finished well back in the Stewards’ Handicap on Saturday, sprinted four furlongs in 49 3-ssec. The Ruthless four-year-old has not fulfilled the promise he showed in his early racing last season.
Paper Strip, a good fourth in the Stewards’ Handicap, dashed over three furlongs in 37sec. A smart galloper, he is a three-year-old colt by Paper Boy . from Colostrip, and trained at Hastings by Mrs L. Campbell and J. H. Jefferd. Lord Moss could have improved on his Imin 3 3-ssec for five furlongs. He ran the last three furlongs in 40sec. His mission on Saturday is the Churchill Stakes. The two-year-old Gold Tip three furlongs in 40 2-ssec. Ballyclare and her stablemate, Whittaker, ran the last three of four furlongs in 37 2-ssec.
Ruth’s Praise, galloping nicely, completed six furlongs six lengths clear of Julius Caesar, and recorded Imin 19 1-5 sec, the last three in 38 4-ssec. It was planned to race Julius Caesar at Riccarton next Saturday, but he is not far enough forward. Royal Hoax, an acceptor for the New Zealand Oaks Stakes next Saturday, ran a mile in Imin 48 2-ssec, the last three in 41 2-ssec. The New Zealand Cup: winner. Calibrate. will be taken north to-night in company with *his stablemate, Sandow, a winner at Motukarara. Lord Revel, which was eased up when he faltered near the half mile in the Cup, has already been taken back north. Several Wingatui-trained horses, including Duvaals, were taken south yesterday. Duvaals suffered a leg injury in the Stewards' Handicap on Saturday and he was unable to run on the second day.
Otakl-Maori Races In the acceptances for the Waitohu Hack Handicap at the Otaki-Maori Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, published yesterday, Eastern Queen was named as an acceptor. Eastern Queen was eliminated as a dual acceptori| her place being taken by Lartigue.—(P.Aj
