TRAP SHOOTING
ELLESMERE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS ' A very strong side wind from the northeast made conditions difficult when the Ellesmere Gun Club held its single and double rise championship trap shooting matches on its ground at Leeston. In spite of this handicap, however, the shooting reached a high standard. The single rise event of 25 clay birds drew 26 competitors, and F. L. Graham and W. L. Donald tied, each with 23 breaks. The shoot-off was won by Graham on the fifth round. He received the championship prize and the Derek Hammond Cup. while Donald took the trophy for runner-up. In the accompanying sweep, G. M. Doyle and G. M. Scott, each with 22 on. divided first and second money, while E. Hammond, F. Alexander and W. J. Patterson, each with 21 on, shared the rest of the money. Twenty-four competed in the double rise championship of six pairs of clays. G. M. Scott was top-scorer with 10 breaks, and he secured a £5 5s trophy and the Dorreen Cup. W. F. Reese and W. J. Patterson each broke nine, and Reese, who won the shoot-off, took the trophy for runner-up. Patterson secured first prize in the sweep, and A. A. Greenwood, G. M. Doyle, J. T. Parkin, and W. H. Winchester, e-.ch with eight breaks, shared the rest of the sweep money. Shooters who scored possibles in a fivebird eye-opener and divided the stake were: D. S. Dorreen, W. Quigley, jun., F. Alexander, W. A. Anderson, J. F. Parkin, W. L. Donald, W. H. Winchester, and W. F. Reese.
