RUGBY LEAGUE
VISIT OF FRENCH TEAM TOUR MAY START IN MAY OF NEXT YEAR (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 6. The likelihood that a French Rugbv League tour of New Zealand will start about May 20, 1951, is mentioned in a letter from the French Rugby League received to-day by Mr J. E. Knowling, secretary of the New Zealand Rugby League. A party of 30 Frenchmen was originally scheduled to arrive by air in Australia oh May 20 and come to New Zealand later, but because the New Zealand Kiwi team will leave for England at the end of July, the French team is considering coming to New Zealand first. The New Zealand League has said that it would not only be far better from a New Zealand point of view if the French toured the Dominion before the 30 Kiwi players left for England, but it would also suit the French better to do a 25-day traha° f Zealand before going to AusDetails of costs of travel and accommodation have been sent to the French League. ~,T h* French play open football, rather like the Maoris. The Kiwis played eight games m France during the 1947-48 tour, including two tests. Thev won the first test 11-7 and lost the second 7-15. They won three and drew one of the other six games.
