RENTS
Sir,—l am a married man with wile and six children. For five years we have been the tenants of a small sea side cottage at a monthly rental of £2 10s. Ag the place is too small for us and other people went it, we have been asked to move. We have been unable to get another place, and as alternative accommodation has not been offered I would like to know our position. I have been asked to pay an extra 2s 6a a week. Can the rent be increased and do I have to pay the extra?—Yours, etc., SNOWY November 1, 1950.
[ The tenant need not pay the extra amount demanded unless an agreement has been entered into by the tenant and the landlord at a rental approved by the fair rents officer, or alternatively, unless a magistrate approved of the increase demanded as a fair rent,” said the District Superintendent of the Department of Labour and Employment (Mr S, E. McGregor) when this letter was referred to him.]
