BRITONS DRINK LESS BEER Brewers Feel the Draught In the first five months of this year, British Brewers rolled out fewer barrels than in the same period of 1949 407,337 fewer to be precise, which the “Financial Times” suggests has been largely brought about by heavy taxation on Britain’s national beverage. The headache in the hogshead for the Brewing fraternity is loss of profits the heaviest of any industrial group and passive, but positive resistance by devotees of “Mild” and “Bitter" is clearly seen in this decreased consumption. But the trouble brewing m New Zealand these days is largely caused by incipient colds which accounts for the greatly increased demand for Baxters Lung Preserver . . . New Zealand’s favourite remedy from a fine old formula sold at the same old price by all chemists and stores. Baxters Ltd., 602 Colombo Street. ChCh. —AdvL
