CENTENNIAL ARBOR DAY CELEBRATED

Children from the Loburn, North Loburn. and Okuku Schools witnessed the planting of three trees at Ashlev yesterday, when Centennial Arbor Day was celebrated. The ceremony was held on the bend of the road which leads towards Loburn. The trees planted were a Japanese maple, a scarlet oak, and a liquid amber. Messrs C. M. Turner (Loburn), A. A. Mclntosh (North Loburn), and H W. F. Hamilton, chairmen of the three school committees, were each assisted by a pupil in planting their respective trees. In a short address to the children, the chairman of the Ashley County Council (Mr A. A. Mclntosh) stressed the necessity of having an abundance of trees in New Zealand.
