N.Z. BADMINTON TEAM
UNBEATEN RECORD SYDNEY. September 7. The New Zealand badminton team maintained its unbeaten record in Australia by beating New South Wales at Newcastle by 5 rubbers to 1 in the last match of the tour. A packed gallery was thrilled by a brilliant exhibition of badminton. Most of the games were wen by comfortable margins, and the only upset was the defeat of B. Baxter by the New South Wales singles champion, D. Lee, who is 18 years old and has only been playing for two years. In an exhibition match, Mrs Potts and Miss Greaves beat Mesdames J. Street and R. Stark, 15-5, 15-10. The most exciting game of the evening was the men’s doubles exhibition, in which Baxter and P. Hawksworth beat R. Pattinson and P. Skelt, 15-6, 17-14. Detailed results are as follows, New Zealanders being mentioned first: — B. Baxter lost to D. Lee, 12-21; Mrs M. Potts beat Miss M. Collins. 15-1; R. Pattinson and P. Skelt beat D. Lee and A. Bird, 15-5. 15-10; Mrs Potts and Miss T. Greaves beat Miss J. Ellrington and Mrs E. Impey, 15-2, 15-1; P. Hawksworth and Mrs Potts beat R. Alexander and Mrs E. Impey. 21-12, P. Skelt and Miss Greaves beat A. Bird and Miss Ellrington, 21-13.
