MODEL BROADCASTING STUDIO
RETENTION IN BARRACKS ADVOCATED Efforts are being made by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association to have the model broadcasting studio in the King Edward Barracks retained. Tenders have been called by ♦he Government Stores Board for the purchare of the building for removal The studio was built in 1946, and hai been used by radio stations each year during the Industries Fair. The secretary o' the association (Mr R. T. Alston) said yesterday that representations were being made to the Government to have the building refeined in the barracks. A.s it stood, the building was not suitable for reerection in the onen. and because of the rronospd Royal visit and other occasions of civic importance, it might be ot considerable use. The building is made of timber framing.' It is lined with boarding
and sheathed with fibre board. The observation windows are doublerlazed with polished plate glass and the building contains a mechanics ventilating system. Fittings include fluorescent lighting linoleum, and an electric motor for the ventilating system.
