OFFICIAL FORECASTS "The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, September 6. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours after the time of issue, is:— Situation: an anti-cyclone is centred over the north-west Tasman and pressures are low to the south and southeast of New Zealand. Forecast: moderate variable winds, northerlies predominating; weather fair, with moderate day temperatures. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is as follows: Moderate to fresh south-west winds; weather cloudy, with occasional showers; temperatures cool. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch yesterday was fine. The maximum temperature was 58.7 degrees. At midnight the sky was clear, and there was a light wind from the east-s:uth-east. The temperature was 48 ■ degrees. The barometer, at 29.52 in (1009.8 millibars), was rising unsteadily.
