ARGENTINA’S CURRENCY

DEVALUATION OF PESO

(Rec. 11 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 30.

Argentina devalued the peso today for the second time in 11 months. The open rate, which closed yesterday at 9.02 to the dollar, opened to-day at 14.25. The previous Argentinian devaluation was in October, 1949, when the peso’s value was cut in line with the devaluation of currencies throughout the world. Argentina at that time increased the peso’s value in relation to sterling, but some rates for the peso were devalued in relation to the dollar.

Coloured Chickens. Two dozen chicks hatched pihk, green, purple, red. or blue, were the stars of the British Food Fair which opened at Olympia to-day. They are a Danish secret, involving treatment of the egg. They lose their colours as soon as their down is replaced by feathers. —London, August 29.
