CRICKET AS PLAYED IN 1850.—The “Gentlemen of Old Bexley” played the “Gentlemen of the Round Table” for a barrel of ale in a recent fixture in England. Held as a charity function, the match was played in the dress of 1850. Entering into the spirit of the game, these players dispensed with such modern refinements as pads, gloves and boots, while the umpire nonchalantly smoked a churchwarden pipe. A similar match has been suggested as part of Canterbury’s centennial celebrations in December.
