RESIGNATION OF PRESIDENT CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION MEETS The resignation of the president (Mr C. . W. Barrow) was accepted at an extra ord- ' inary general meeting of members of the ; Canterbury Boxing Association on Mon-» day evening. Mr A. R. Harris was unanimously elected as president. Mr Barrow did not attend the meeting. An outline of { events leading up to Mr Barrow’s resigna- ■ tion was given by Mr J. Adams, who pre- i sided In April. Mr Barrow’ had notified the ! committee that he was going to Austra- I lia, and he had been given leave of ab- ■ sence by the committee, said Mr Adams. ' On his return from Australia, Mr Barrow ; had not been seen either at meetings or tournaments conducted by the associa- I tion, and the committee had written to ' him expressing concern at his prolonged j absence, said Mr Adams. In reply to the • committee. Mr Barrow had written and given excuses of either ill-health or pressure of business for his absence, and had tendered his resignation. During his stay in Australia, it had been proposed by the committee that Mr Barrow should put forwa’-d the idea of get- I ting a team of Australian boxers for the ' Centennia l Games, said Mr Adams, but .committee had not heard anything officially from Mr Barrow as to what he had done. It was decided to hold a committee meeting to discuss the resignations of other members of the committee. In reply to a question, Mr Adams said that since the committee had received Mr Barrow’s letter of resignation, it had been •n touch with the Australian Association, *ihich had accented an invitation to send 16 boxers to the Centennial Games.
