WELLINGTON, August 25 In working mood after having heard i what was in the Budget, the House of Representatives made what the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) described as a good clearance of its Order Paper to-day. Before it adjourned at-5.25 p.m. until 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, it passed five bills, leaving the field clear for the Budget debate next week. In the morning it passed the Emergency Forces Bill, which provides the necessary statutory authority for the raising of K Force and its dispatch to Korea and also for making emergency regulations to safeguard the interests of servicemen and their dependants. This bill had a quick passage through the Legislative Council, and was passed with one technical amendment, with which the Lower House concurred. During the afternoon the House passed the Medical Research Council Bill, the Tuberculosis Amendment Bill, the Evidence Amendment Bill, and the Property Law Amendment Bill. The Chattels Transfer Amendment Bill was read a second time, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. When the House adjourned, only ’ three bills remained on the Order Paper. Two are major measures—the Electoral Amendment Bill and the Political Disabilities Removal Amendment Bill. They will have to await the end of the Budget debate, which may last three weeks. Other business to-day included several notices of questions and the tabling of the annual report of the Post and Telegraph Department by the Postmaster-General (Mr W. J. Broadfoot). The Legislative Council was Hso fully occupied to-dav. in addition to the Emergency Forces Bill, it passed five other bins. They were the Meat Export Control Amendment Bill, the Dairy Products Marketing Commission Amendment Hill, the Wool Industry Amendment Bill, the Stock Amendment Bill, and the Co-operative Egg Marketing Com? panies Bill.
