IMPORTATION OF BANANAS

Sir—Your correspondent William Bell states that “all housewives should be grateful for the shipment of bananas which will arrive in Lyttelton in September—one shipment. I should like to tell William Bell that what the South Island women ask for is a “regular” supply of fruit, direct from the Islands to our southern ports. One shipment is only an appeasement. Let us have a return of the service of 15 years ago and we shall be grateful.— Yours, etc.,

MARY McLEAN, President, Christchurch branch, National Council of Women. August 22, 1950.
