EDUCATION BOARD IN CANTERBURY
REPRESENTATipN HELD UNSATISFACTORY A recommendation that schools on the West Coast and in North Canterbury should be regrouped to give North Canterbury schools more direct representation on the Canterbury Education Board, was carried at last evening’s meeting o." 'the Canterbury School Committees’ Association. The recommendation was made after cuscussion of a letter from the Woodend School Committee. The letter said: “As there are about 34 schools on the West Coast and 26 or 28 on the Canterbury side of the northwest ward, it would appear that so long as two West Coasters are willing to stand, the North Canterbury schools in the ward havs practically no hope of local representation.” The letter asked for two representatives for the ward, one from either side of the Southern Alps. s in s e J he matter had been first raised, there had been a change of Government, said the president (Mr ±i. Cooper).
On the motion of M. C. D. W. L. Sheppard, it was decided to refer the Canterbury Education Board and the Education Department.
