ADDINGTON MARKET

FAT SHEEP SELL WELL Wethers make up to 99s Id After the big yarding of heavy cattle and. sheep at the show sale last week, these classes of stock were easier at the Addington Market yesterday. The decline, in value was not great in either case. All other classes of both fat sheep and fat cattle sold very well, and there was a particularly good demand fox the best fat cows. Fat hoggets were forward in smallei numbers, and met one of the best sales of the year, with prices up to above £4 a head. Store sheep were forward in small numbers, but there was a sound inquiry for all classes, particularly hoggets. No spring lambs were yarded. I STORE SHEEP The store sheep yarding consisted of 479 | hoggets, 802 ewes, and 90 wethers, a total of 1371 against 1207 last week. The hoggets contained one or two pens of very good sheep, which met a sound demand at slightly above recent rates. Secondary hoggets were even dearer, and were about 2s a head above recent rates. Top price was 70s. paid for a very attractive line of fine-woolled, even Romney ewes. A good pen of fine-woolled ewe hoggets made 64s 7d. The rest made from 40s to 52s 6d. The sale of ewes opened with prices below those of last week, but more interest was tdken later, and the sale finished about Is a head above recent rates. A splendid line of five-year Romney ewes in lamb to Southdown-Border rams made 70s, which is probably the highest price ever paid at Addington for ewes of that age. Other lines made 66s Id and 595, and the rest made from 38s to 56s 6d. Two pens df wethers made 57s and 565. FAT HOGGETS There were 599 head in the fat hogget section compared with 603 last week, and quality, though not so good as last week, was of average standard. The sale was again a very good one with the trade taking everything at values fully three to four shillings better than last weeK on an average, and in some cases even more. There were a number of sales at. over 80s. Thirteen from a line from S. Connolly (Temuka) made the high price of 89s 7d, and the whole line of 47 averaged 84s 6d. The best of the entry made from 72s Id to 89s 7d, good from 62s 7d to 71s Id. and others from 48s to 61s Id. The main sales were:—

FAT SHEEP The entry of fat sheep was 3849 against 4628 last week. Quality was again excellent, and fully up to the high standard of recent weeks. Probably because of the very big supply of extra heavy show sheep last week, the demand for this type was not as keen, and prices were down by 2s a head. Other wethers and all classes of ewes sold steadily at last week’s rates. A splendid line of 29 wethers from Mrs M. Chatterton (Dunsandel) averaged 95s 7d each, and the tops of them sold at 99s Id. Another line of 20 from Hororata made from 90s Id to 91s Id. Six ewes from Moore-Bros. (Seafield) made 67s Id. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 99s Id. Prime heavy wethers, 64s to 765.
