RESERVE BANK RETURNS
The Reserve Bank returns for the week ended August 2, with, the previous week’s figures in parenthesis, are as follows: — Liabilities.— General reserve fund, £1,500,000 (same); bank notes, £54,733,000 (£54,722,000); demand liabilities: State, £15,750,000 (£13,920,000); banks, £73,961,000 (£75,101,000); other, £931,000 (£1,302,000); liabilities in currencies other than New Zealand currency, £25,000 (£22,000); other liabilities, £4,557,000 (£4,566,000). Total: £(N.Z.) 150,964,000 (£151,132,000). Assets.—Gold, £4,327,000 (£4,323,000) sterling exchange, New Zealand currency. £57,658,000 (£57,882,000); subsidiary coin, £178,000 (£167,000); advances to State marketing organisations, £3,555,000 (£3,483,000);, for other purposes, £53,005,000 (£53,000,000); other advances, £5,473,000 (£5,462,000); Investments, £22,658,000 (same); other assets, £4,110,000 (£4,157,000). Total: £(N.Z.) 150,964,000 (£151,132,000). Proportion of reserve to notes and other demand liabilities, 42.756 per cent. (42.871 per cent.). WOOL PRODUCTION IN U.S. (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, August 8. The Agriculture Department estimated to-day that United States wool production in 1950 would total 218,239,0001 b. about 1,300,0001 b more than 1949. This will be a third less than the average for the 1939-48 period and considerably below the nation’s needs.
