COCKTAIL PARTY

YOUNG CONTINGENT OF VICTORIA LEAGUE For several years past the Young Contingent of the Victoria League has sent annually to England—for children and old persons—food parcels to the value of nearly £2OO, and in addition the members sponsor four children under the Save the Children Fund and help in many branches of local welfare work. Yesterday, in the Mayfair ballroom, the members held their annual party arranged to raise funds for their food for Britain effort. It was a great success, socially and financially. The large crowd of vistors were welcomed by the president (Miss Nancy Northcroft), who wore a smart black suit, pale blue blouse, black hat with upturned brim and velvet trimming, and a shoulder spray of red roses. She was assisted by members of her committee and by her honorary secretary, Miss Elizabeth Williams, who wore a black frock with rounded yoke inset with bands of black net, a black hat trimmed with pink ospreys, ahd a pink shoulder spray. Specially invited guests included Brigadier G. B. Parkinson and Mrs Parkinson, Mr R. H. Livingstone (president Royal Empire Society) and Mrs Livingstone, Mr A. I. Cottrell (president Overseas League) and Mrs Cottrell, Mr J. K. Milner (organiser, Overseas League) and Mrs Milner, Dr. and Mrs Frank Scott, Miss M. Skoglund and Miss N. Ray (Victoria League), Mrs H. Wyatt (Women’s Auxiliary of the Navy League), Miss Natalie Vale (junior branch, Navy League), Commander Hicks (R.N.V.R.) and Mrs Hicks, Miss M. G. Havelaar (SaVe the Children Fund), Mr Gordon Leggat (20th Century Group of the Overseas League), Mr H. C. Hassall and Mrs Hassall, Mr and Mrs J. Collins, Mr and Mrs McCorkindale, and Mr and Mrs Roger Ballantyne. Members of the organising committee responsible for the excellent arrangements for the party were Miss Northcroft, Mesdames F. W. Seldon, John Cuddon, Jason Richards, Misses Elizabeth Williams, Jean Anderson, Margaret Howarth, Rosemary Cuningham, Kathleen Gould, Phillida Gould, Beatrix Harper, Lilian Johns, Patricia Lane, Gillian Richards, Sheila Sandston, Messrs Keely Jameson, Stuart Nicholls, Peter Norman, Garry Sandston, J. W. Seldon, and John Ward.
