WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Sumner.—A debate on the subject, “Are grandmothers a nuisance with children,” caused much amusement at the July meeting of the Sumner Women's Institute. Mesdames Prebble and Mcßae, who were guests at the meeting, conveyed messages from the Canterbury federation. Competitions resulted as follows:—spike, Mrs Colman 1, Mrs Nicholson, jun., 2, Mrs Allard 3; cluster, Mrs Thomas 1, Mrs Bassett 2. Mrs Nicholson, sen., 3; single bloom, Mrs Bassett 1, Mrs Thomas 2, Mrs Norman 3: marmalade, Mrs Boyce 1, Mrs Vaughan 2, Mrs Hodson 3. Medbury.—Mrs A. Dalzell presided at the July meeting of the Medbury Women’s Institute. Three tins of fat, to be sent to England, were handed in. The delegate gave a detailed report of her visit to the Dominion conference and the handicraft exhibition. Competition results were as follows:—large bloom: Mrs A. Dalzell 1, Mrs W. Dalzell 2. Small bloom: Mrs W. Dalzell 1. Cooking: Mrs A. Dalzell 1, Mrs V. Bishell was hostess.
