RUSSIA AND . AGGRESSION
Sir. —Over the appropriate title of “Onward Christian Soldiers,” as relating to the exploits of missionaries sent to different parts of the world, a corresnondent raises the query, “Has Russia sent missionaries to any part of the world to teach the heathens?” First, what does he consider a heathen? Second, the Soviet Union, having secured an economic sound basis and denuded itself of the necessity of disseminating doctrines to its own people or anybody else, other than the consistent injunction to apply efforts in the direction of improving society in general, has made phenomenal progress. incidentally, without the aid of misunderstanding crusaders. Thousands of missionaries have gone to China. Would the correspondent assume that the rebirth of a dormant China is resultant upon any of their efforts? Correct and uninterrupted planning, based upon a humane approach to problems associated with production and distribution, is the mission.—Yours, etc., D.H.C. August 8, 1950.
