MOTOR-CYCLE TRIAL
WIN FOR B. WILLIAMS Organised this year by the Canterbury Auto Cycle Club, the New Zealand Auto lons sporting trial was won by B. Williams, of Christchurch, on a Matchless. Eleven of the 14 starters w’ho faced the starter on Saturday finished the course on Sunday evening. The three retirements were due to water in the ignition systems. The course on Saturday led along the Summit road to Governor’s Bay, and back to the plains by way of Gebbie’s Hass to Coe s Ford. During the afternoon the Selwyn river was crossed four times, and the course then led back to Christchurch by way of the two-chain road. The machines were locked up on Saturday night so that competitors could not carry out repairs, and on Sunday morning a quick starting test was held. Sunday’s run led through Rangiora to Amberley and back through Rangiora by another route. Forty-nine observed sections were held during the two days. The winner lost the low total of 69 points. The runnerup, R. Harris, of Christchurch, riding a 1926 special Sunbeam-Ariel, lost 72 points. Probably for the first time in the history of the New Zealand trials the number of cars following the course exceeded the number of competitors. Results:—B. Williams, 69 points lost, 1; R.
