TUESDAY (Before Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M.) IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT George Marshall, aged 29, a labourer and lorry driver, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing £2 in money from Eileen Emily Martin at Christchurch on August 2, was sentenced to sevefi days’ imprisonment with hard labour. Senior-Sergeant J. J. Kearns said that the theft had taken place in the hotel where the complainant was employed. The accused, who conducted his own defence, denied that he had taken the money. TRAFFIC CASES Fines for breaches of the traffic reguwere imposed as follows in cases brought by the traffic department of the Christchurch City Council:— Parking over time limit: Francis Alfred Aldred. 15s; Kenneth Henry Miller Hampton, convicted and discharged; Victor Louis Vivequin, 30s. Parking in prohibited area: Rosalind Mary Beadel, 15s; William Albert Gains. 20s; Norman Harold Gale, 15s; Theo Geoffrey Henning, 10s; Richard John Hore, 20s; Kenneth George McCaw, 15s; William Noel Nicolle, 30s; George Thomas Southam, 10s. Parked within six feet of fire-plug: George Nicholas Blackaby, 15s (no driver’s licence, 20s). Exceeding 30 miles an hour: Murray Joseph Chappel, £4 (driving vehicle other than that specified on licence, 20s); Reginald Hawes Clark, £2; Albert Frank Day,. £2; Owen Peters, £2; Kenneth James Tweedie, £2. Cycling without light: Neil William Clarke, 20s; Archibald Robert Charles Johnson, 20s; William Lowry, 20s; John Terrance O’Keefe. 20s. Not displaying “L” plates: Donald Victor Maffey, 10s. CIVIL CASES * (Before Mr Rex. C. Abernethy, S.M.) Judgment for £6O was entered for the plaintiff, New Zealand Sheepfarmers’ Agency, Ltd., land agents (Mr B. J. Drake), in a claim against Stanley Edward Olander Lawrence, a farmer, of Annat for commission amounting to £192 10s. 6 It was stated that the company had been granted the sole agency to sell a farm belonging to Lawrence, who had sold it through another firm. The claim was based on a price of £lO,OOO. at which was agreed the property should be sold. On the Land Valuation Court’s price of £B2BB, the commission would be £l5O 16s 6d, said Mr Drake.
