£51,200 LOSS ON FILM UNIT

REVIEW OF FINANCES FOR YEAR PUBLICITY STUDIOS COST £28,822 (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON. August 8. The National Film Unit cost £51,200 to operate in the year ended Marcn 31, and the National Publicity Studios cost a further £28.822. The net operting payments of the National Film Unit were £71,832, which is exclusive of £20,482 spent on the purchase of capital assets. Re’ee pts from the sales of the unit were: from Government d-partmen Is. £13,458; other sales, £1862; overseas sales, £134: Weekly Review, £5178; total. £20.632. The net operating payments for the National Publicity Siudios totalled £37.992. which did not include £5622 for the purchase of capital assets. Receipts from sales were: Government departments, £8525; other sales, £539; overseas sales, £6.

Government departments which made these payments were: Education, £6100; Tourist, £4392; Agriculture, £3286; Transport. £2024; and various others to the value of £6281. These figures are contained in the annual report of the Controller and Auditor-General (Mr J. P. Rutherford) presented in the House of Representatives to-day.
