PARLIAMENTARY DAY

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 8. Familiar ground was again traversed in the House of Representatives today, when the Tenancy Amendment Bill was further discussed. A motion by the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) aking urgency for the passing of the bill was not unexpected, as members have had amnle time to voice any objections to this measure. The late sitt’ng this evening was the second so far this session. The other | occasion was on the third day of the session. when the Opposition used the first Imprest Supoly Bill to move a vote of no-confidence in the Government. It was a comparatively thin House which listened to to-day’s debate. Only two members were given leave of absence—Mi*s M. B. Howard (Opposition. Sydenham) and Mr W. Freer (Opposition. Mount Albert)—but Miss Howard took her seat later in the day. There were surprisingly few notices of quest ons after the week-end break. An important document tabled was the annual report of th? Controller and Aud tor-General. Exceptional interest is still being maintained in the proceedings of the Uoper House, which is debating the second reading of the Legislative Council Abclit on Bill. Sir William Perry (Wellington) moved an amendment that the second sending should be deferred until the proposed select committee had reported and its report had been considered. The Counc 1 spent the rest of the day discussing the amendment.
