CHINA SEAT IN U.N.

India Working For Change ADMISSION OF COMMUNISTS (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, July 7. Reuter’s New Delhi correspondent says that the Prime Minister of India (Pandit Nehru) told a press conference to-day that India had been working through diplomatic channels for the admission of Communist China to the Security Council of the United Nations. “Admission of the People’s Government of China and the return of Russia are necessary conditions for the Council to discharge its functions adequately and bring the Korean conflict to a prompt and peaceful conclusion,” said Pandit Nehru.

Military assistance to South Korea was beyond India’s capacity. India had not offered, and would not offer, to mediate in Korea. “One can only mediate if requested by the parties concerned,” said Pandit Nehru. He added that he would go “to the world’s end” if there were a chance of peace coming out of any kind of negotiation
