GERALDINE CLUB

BOOST AND GLIDE IN FAVOURED Boost, the runner-up to Conclusion in the principal event at Washdyke last Saturday, is the early favourite for the President’s Handicap at the Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting at Otari to-day. The Royal Chief three-year-old appears to have taken no harm from his race last Saturday. and with 7-6 he appears to hold a strong chance of scoring his first win in open company. Clyde Bridge, the top-weight, with 9-0, was never going like a winner on the rain-soaked track at Washdyke, but with better conditions likely to-day his Ashburton form will probably be a more reliable guide to his prospects. Clyde Bridge decisively won the Maronan Handicap at Ashburton a fortnight ago. and neither his rise in weight nor the longer journey today should stop him from running prominently again. Dark Chief will also be well supported on the strength of his brilliant finishing run into second place behind Winning Cheer in the Oamaru Winter Cup three weeks ago. Glide In and Sir Abbot, which had the finish of the Fairlie Handicap to themselves at Washdyke last Saturday, will dispute favouritism for the Stewards’ Handicap, the second leg of the double It is in Glide In’s favour that he is a quick beginner, and if he can reach the front early the others will have difficulty in overhauling him. Sir Abbot appears to be improving with racing. At his best he is a galloper above the average. Front Page did not start at Washdvke last Saturday, because of the heavy state of the track. Conditions should be more to his liking for the Temuka Hurdles today. and if Ashburton form is a reliable guide he should be hard to beat. At Ashburton he was outpaced and outstayed by the smart Battle Song mare. Watchword, but he was unchallenged in second place. Moonlit. Bon Chale. and Bridgehead should also race well. Ferry Pilot and Swithindale (Winchester Trot) form the onlv bracket on the programme. Selections are:— Temuka Hurdles: Front Page, Moonlit, Bon Chale.
